Chevrolet Winning Teen Ad to be Aired During the Super Bowl
Katie Crabb, a shy 19 year-old has created an ad for Chevrolet at a price that will surely make other people envious of her---a mouth watering $2.6 million. Crabb has won a nationwide competition by Chevrolet which involves designing a 30-second commercial for the company’s new line of crossover cars.
The ad created by Crabb is scheduled to be aired this weekend during the Super Bowl which is a popular event not only because of the game but more for the commercials. The average price of the 30 second spot ad which will be aired on CBS this Sunday is $2.6 million. Crabb commented in an interview at her home in North Prairie, about 45 miles west of Milwaukee, “I can’t even imagine having that much money in my life and then spend it on one 30-second spot.”
Chevrolet has invited all college students this fall to participate in a competition that will put their creativity to good use. The competition aims to create an ad that will target a younger audience focusing on the company’s HHR, Cobalt, Equinox or Aveo with their top of the line GM parts.
Chevrolet is not the only one that is into the amateur ad craze - even Doritos and the National Football League are employing novice ad creators as well especially during Super Bowl wherein the stakes are high and slots are expensive.
According to Kim Kosak, General Director of Advertising and Sales promotions for Chevrolet, a unit of General Motors Corp., the winning ad would have to be “smart, simple and breakthrough”. “We wanted something that was risk-taking and breakthrough, because if you’re going to do the Super Bowl you have to take risks.”
Katie Crabb was a freshman at the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee who joined the competition as part of an assignment in a journalism class. She never imagined that she could win, “It was one of those things where you take the opportunity because it’s there. But it’s like---‘it’s going happen to someone else because it never happens to you’—that kind of mindset,” she said.
Chevrolet has received entries from 820 teams from 230 schools. Five teams comprising of 11 students were selected as finalists and were brought to Detroit in late October to work with advertising professionals to develop their pitches and present their ideas. During the contest Crabb was the youngest participant and the only solo finalist.
Her winning ad which will be aired throughout the year showcased an HHR stopped in New York City with men swarming the car, hoping to wash it so that they can touch it. According to Crabb her ad shows a different side of Chevrolet and at the same time employing a different approach to advertising cars which are often directed for male audiences. She also added that she has been a football fan and watched every game and commercials for years.
“We never get commercials that are for us, very rarely we do, especially with car commercials” Crabb pertaining to ads directed for women audience.
Crabb for her add infused comedy because she believes that in order to get your commercial noticed you have to make it funny. “You’re never going to get noticed without being funny or so out there that people are like, ‘What was that?’”.
So why did Chevrolet choose Crabb’s ad? According to Kosak, the ad created by Crabb was easy to understand and appealed to all ages. “It’s very simple, very smart because it all emanates from the product and at the same time projects a different feel for Chevrolet.”
Crabb took part in filming the ad in New York and made sure that it didn’t stray much from her original vision. She also said that she’s very interested in film and hopes to pursue it one day. Aside from the ad, the automaker is also getting publicity from the contest itself. It has partnered with CBS to show the “Webisodes” online of the contest and the finalists making their pitches in Detroit. Likewise, viewers of CBS’s “The Early Show” were also asked to vote for their favorite ad submissions online. Voting has ended last January.
Crabb was announced the winner of the contest. Official announcement will be made during the CBS’s airing of “Super Bowl’s Greatest Commercials”. The 19-year old Crabb was also offered a full-time job at the Campbell-Ewald, a unit of Interpublic Group of Cos, Inc. which handles all of Chevrolet’s advertising.

What is the ratio of getting a super rare and above in each pack of yugioh cards?
A Common card is identified by having a black or white card name and the image is not holofoiled. Some common cards are short printed or super short printed by UDE. A listing of all super short or short prints can be found in Beckett's Official Magazine.
A Rare card is identified by having a silver card name and the image is not holofoiled. The chances of getting one in a Booster Pack in the TCG is 1:1 for The Duelist Genesis and later.
A Super Rare card is identified by having a black or white card name and the image is a holofoil. More recent video game promo cards have been Super Rares. Currently there is a 1:5 chance of getting one in a booster pack.
An Ultra Rare card is identified by having a gold card name and a holofoil image. The odds of getting an Ultra Rare in a Booster Pack was around 1:12 in Booster Packs before Soul of the Duelist. from Soul of the Duelist onwards the odds became around 1:24. However reprint sets released after Soul of the Duelist such as Dark Revelation Volume 3 use the 1:12 ratio. Although after Tactical Evolution the odds dropped back down to 1:12
An Ultimate Rare card has an "embossed" foil on the Card Artwork, including the borders of artworks, Attribute icon, and on Monster Cards, the Level Stars. The card name is printed gold, like an Ultra Rare. When scanned, the embossed image may be muted and the image indistinct from the background. This card rarity is very hard for Scalers to find, since the card is much thinner than a normal Super Rare or Ultra Rare, with a weight comparable to that of to a Common. Ultimate Rare cards usually also come in a less rare variety that can be found in the same booster with the same card number.
OCG Ultimate Rares tend to scan much better than their TCG counterparts, due to a slightly reflective coating present on all OCG cards (but lacking on TCG cards). This has the advantage of brightening the image, and making the foil image more distinct than on a TCG equivalent. In the OCG, Ultimate Rares have been known to be printed as independent rarities, while they are used exclusively as an additional Booster Pack rarity in the TCG.
When they were first introduced in the TCG, Ultimate Rare cards often only had partial foil on the Card artwork, usually the background. Starting partially in Shadow of Infinity and from Enemy of Justice onwards, the entire picture would be embossed in foil.
On the internet market, Ultimate Rare Cards are often much more valuable than others, even if their effectiveness in the game is only above average.
Ghost Rare is a fairly recent rarity introduced in the TCG version of Tactical Evolution. It appears to have a very shiny silver lettering, much like a Secret Rare, with some colours removed from the card image. The overall effect of these changes is a pale, "Ghost-like" appearance to the card art, especially when scanned. There are only 6 Ghost Rare TCG Cards: Rainbow Dragon, Elemental Hero Chaos Neos, Rainbow Neos, Honest, Stardust Dragon and Black Rose Dragon. This is the TCG version of Holographic Rare. The rarity of a Ghost Rare is 1 per 36 boxes.
A Secret Rare card is identified by having a silver card name and the image has a unique holofoil known as a parallel holofoil (named due to the parallel dot effect on the image). On first edition printings and some collector tins, the foil on the letters of secret rare cards sometimes "spill over", creating a thin film over the counter of the letters. This spill-over has also manifested in some Super Rare cards. In sets that are older than Tactical Evolution, secret Rares are all either the first (#000) or last cards in a set.
Secret Rares were at first discontinued due to excessive use of electronic scales, however, they have been re-introduced in Strike of Neos. Currently, the odds of getting a Secret Rare in a Booster Pack is 1:24.
Secret Rares are also the rarity of Collector Tin Promo cards.
A Ultra Secret Rare has the Ultra Rare foil over the image, but has the sparkly silver card name like a Secret Rare. There are very few of these cards; only seven currently exist in English (the GSE version of "Elemental Hero Wildheart" and a misprinted run of "Collectors Tins: Series 1"), and ten Japanese cards.
An Secret Ultra Rare has the Secret Rare foil over the image, but has the Gold card name like a Ultra Rare.
The only image known for this type of rarity, is an apparently misprinted version of "Gaia the Dragon Champion" in the original Legend of Blue Eyes White Dragon booster pack.
