Food can be outrageously expensive at Walt Disney World and sometimes, of poor quality. Disneyland opened on July 17, 1955.
Technically, Disneyland is considered a Theme Park rather than an amusement park. It was the first Theme Park ever created.
To correct Kayelynn, Disneyland did not open with wet cement and no water fountains. It was mentioned in Modern Marvels: Walt Disney World that the Park opened on a very hot day and women's spiked heals sank into the asphalt. And there were not enough water fountains, but there were some (not none.) The "bunny" cartoon character she refers to, "Oswald the Lucky Rabbit" was not taken by the company he was working for. They owned the rights to the character and when Walt realized this he left the company (he was not fired.) Also, he didn't necessarily create the Park for his daughters - he got the idea for Disneyland while he sat on a dirty park bench watching his daughters play on a merry-go-round. That's when he decided to create a Theme Park where children and their parents could have fun together. Walt Disney World did not open a few days after Walt's death. Walt Disney died on December 15, 1966 and Walt Disney World opened on October 1, 1971 - nearly five years after Walt's death (not a few days after.) And Holidayland was actually part of Disneyland. It is now referred to as the "lost" land of Disneyland, and it was located on the western edge of the Park, near the area that is now New Orleans Square.
One other main event in Walt Disney's life - he was sent to France for a year with the Red Cross during World War I where he drove an ambulance.
