Victoria Lodging – Finest Tea Houses in Victoria

Take some time out of your daily routine and enjoy an age-old English tradition, you won’t regret it! Afternoon tea is a light meal or refreshment typically served between 3-5pm. Other than a hot cup of tea, this British custom includes tiers of tiny delicacies: finger-sized sandwiches, miniature scones with jam and Devonshire cream and petite desserts.

The practice was brought about in the 1700s by Anna Maria Stanhope, Duchess of Bedford. In the past, England only had two main meals a day, breakfast and dinner. The duchess complained of having a ‘sinking feeling’ midday and thus instigated afternoon tea sessions to remedy her discomfort. As she invited others to join in on her late afternoon meal, it rapidly became a ritual adopted by many other women in the United Kingdom.

As the British Empire expanded around the world, the tradition of afternoon tea spread to many of its colonies. Victoria, B.C is one former British North American colony that is known for its outstanding afternoon tea houses. Find out more about the different tea houses in Victoria and discover which one is best for you!

Is it that time of year again?

The morning sky is salmon pink and the wind is turning to the West - and very feintly there is the sound of bells carried with it. The hens in the wee hoose have fluffed up all their feathers and are looking expectantly at the wee chimney. The wee wobbly pup is making small whining noises and is pushing his food bowl closer to the fireplace. MacTealc is spending more time out in the stables making something for the coming celebrations and I have the cooking range at full speed with oat scones and mince pies and ecklefeckle puds and a warming fruit punch on the top brewing............ I think I hear the sound of friends coming over the moor to join us for our first Christmas .......... are all the old Seniors going to make it for a wee strupak to toast the past year and the friends we made - will you join us fer Auld Lang Syne?

Just bring yersel and the tale of what you enjoyed most in the past year on here - for me it was the friends from around the world I have made.

Tis the season to remember and give thanks,I will be alone and glad of it....I shall make the trek to the highlands,if just once more to sit by the fire and dream of dragons and fair wenches, strong, kilted thighs and friendly laughter...aye Lady, time to be thankful....

Wee Abi 1 day old, wee scone x
